In a surprising development, two days after joining the office of the Municipality, Commissioner Sandeep Rishi was again transferred as Deputy Commissioner of Excise in Patiala. This is his fifth transfer in two and a half months.

In new Punjab government ordinances, Kumar Saurabh Raj has been appointed Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation (MC) of Amritsar.

Meanwhile, Co-Commissioner Hardeep Singh has also been moved. He was appointed Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM), Kapurthala and Bholath.

Rishi was promoted to IAS last year and his first appointment as commissioner was in the holy city on November 21, 2021.

After the results of the state assembly elections and the formation of the AAP government, he was transferred on April 24 as the managing director of the Jalandhar Development Authority (JDA). There was no commissioner for many weeks at the MC in Amritsar. Then, on May 23, the Punjab government appointed Karnail Singh as Commissioner of the MC of Amritsar. But Karnail Singh did not take over the post of City Commissioner here.

After that, on June 24, the Punjab government handed over the additional office of municipal commissioner to Harpreet Singh Sudan, deputy commissioner of Amritsar. Sudan began working as Assistant Commissioner, President, Improvement Trust and MC Commissioner. He made a bold move in an investigation into the excavation case and suspended five officials from the municipal planning wing.

Subsequently, on July 7, Sandeep Rishi was reappointed Commissioner, Amritsar MC. He joined the office on Friday. Now, only two days later, the Punjab government has again transferred Rishi to the vacant post of Additional Commissioner, Excise Department.

Political pundits in the city cite a power clash between two Delhi-based AAP groups during the recent transfer of Commissioner MC.
