The next Playa Field Day will take place on April 19
The next Playa Field Day in Tulia is scheduled for April 19.
The workshop will cover general information about the playas and the programs in place to help restore them.
The event is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. in the meeting room at the Swisher County Annex, 310 W. Broadway in Tulia. There is a $15 registration fee. Interested persons may contact Ogallala Commons Director Darryl Birkenfeld at darryl@ogallalacommons.org or by phone at (806) 945-2255.
Activities will include tours, presentations and lunch.
The day’s activities will begin before lunch. Participants will be taken to two different restored playas in the Tulia area.
Heather Johnson of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department will present on the Texas Playa Conservation Initiative.
Todd Montandon, Texas Parks and Wildlife Department, will speak about the Pastures for Upland Birds program.
There will also be a panel presentation titled “Guiding Policy Priorities: Local Working Groups and Forums”. Panelists include John Parkes, National Resources Conservation Service in Tulia; Jason Wade, Swisher County AgriLife Extension Service Agent; and Calley Runnels, Family and Community Health through Swisher County AgriLife Extension.
The group will head to the premiere playa at approximately 11:15 a.m. The play tours will be led by Heather Johnson.
The group should return to the meeting room for lunch at 12:20 p.m. and the program will end at 1 p.m.
