Taylor County adds three deaths, 51 cases on Thursday

Deaths attributed to COVD-19 in Taylor County continued to climb to 500 with three more reported on Thursday.
The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District reported 51 new cases and 89 recoveries.
The total number of deaths in the county linked to the coronavirus is 492.
Of the 51 new cases, 21 were confirmed by polymerase chain reaction tests.
The active cases total 1,454 (485 PCR cases and 969 cases resulting from antigenic tests). A week ago, there were 1,817 active cases.
Hendrick Health reported 68 COVID-19 hospital patients at its three hospitals on Wednesday, including 25 in intensive care. As of Tuesday, there were 70 COVID-19 hospital patients, including 22 in intensive care.
The breakdown by facility Wednesday was 60 inpatients in Abilene hospitals (20 in intensive care) and eight in Brownwood Hospital (five in intensive care).
Of the 68 Hendrick COVID-19 hospital patients, 60 were not fully immunized, while 23 of 25 intensive care patients were not fully immunized.
The percentage of COVID-19 hospital patients in the Abilene trauma ward area was 9.07% of the total hospital capacity on Wednesday, up from 9.28% on Tuesday and 9.48% on Monday, according to the base COVID-19 data from the Texas State Department.
The Abilene trauma service area in the 16 counties had 87 COVID-19 hospital patients, all adults, on Wednesday, up from 89 on Tuesday, the state reported.

SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
Abilene ISD: Reported 13 new cases (eight students, five staff) on Wednesday, down from 22 new cases on Tuesday. New cases per campus: four students and two staff at Cooper, two students and two staff at Mann Middle, two students at Purcell Elementary, and one staff at Maintenance.
Active cases total 94 (74 students, 20 staff), which was the same total on Tuesday. As of August 3, the district has reported 1,083 cases (881 students, 202 staff).
Wylie ISD: Three new cases (two students, one staff member) were reported Wednesday, for a total of 12 active cases. As of Tuesday, the number of active cases stood at 14.
Active cases by campus: one student and staff member at East Elementary, one student at West Intermediate, one student at West Early Childhood, one student and staff member at East Junior High, and five students and one staff member at Wylie High.
Christian University of Abilene: Reported zero new cases on Wednesday, with three active cases, the same number of active cases reported on Tuesday. Three people are in quarantine due to possible exposure. All three active cases were vaccinated. The cumulative cases since August 17 total 152.
