Taylor County adds 2 deaths, 143 cases Monday; hospitalizations in the region are decreasing

The Abilene-Taylor County Public Health District on Monday reported two COVID-19-related deaths and 143 new cases since the last report on Friday.

Members of the Rockingham County delegation were told on Thursday that “a participant” at the county delegation meeting on Monday “developed symptoms of COVID-19 (Wednesday) evening and subsequently tested positive for the virus”.
The total number of deaths in the county linked to the coronavirus is 479.

Active cases total 2,029, up from 2,466 a week ago.
Hendrick Health reported 76 COVID-19 hospital patients at its three hospitals on Monday, including 27 in intensive care. As of Friday, there were 78 COVID-19 hospital patients in total, including 24 in intensive care.
Of 76 Hendrick COVID-19 hospital patients, 63 were not fully immunized, while 25 of 27 intensive care patients were not fully immunized.
The percentage of COVID-19 hospital patients in the Abilene trauma ward area was 10.02% on Sunday, compared with 10.29% on Saturday and 10.42% on Friday, according to the Department’s COVID-19 database. ‘State of Texas.
The Abilene trauma service area in the 16 counties had 93 COVID-19 hospital patients on Monday, fewer than the 98 on Sunday and 114 a week ago, the state reported. All currently hospitalized patients are adults.
COVID-19-related hospitalizations have also declined statewide, from 9,719 a week ago to 7,934 on Monday.
Brown County adds 4 deaths and 109 new cases
BROWNWOOD – Brown County health officials reported four COVID-19-related deaths on Friday, but a drop in new cases for the third week in a row.
The deceased are a woman in her forties, two men in her fifties and a man in his sixties. None were resident in a retirement home.
A total of 176 deaths in the county have been linked to the coronavirus and the average age of those who died is 66.
For the week ending October 1, the county reported 109 new cases of COVID-19. This is a significant drop from 233 the week before and the peak of 378 on September 10 during the current outbreak.
The county also reported 14 COVID-19-related hospitalizations and 162 active cases on Friday. The previous Friday there were 21 hospitalizations and 272 active cases.
The percentage of county residents aged 12 and over who are fully vaccinated is 40.47%, up from 40.06% the week before.
The current totals for COVID-19 testing in Brown County as of Friday were:

- Negative total: 9,682
- Confirmed cases by PCR test: 3,180
- Cases confirmed by antigen test: 3,653
- Deaths: 176

SCHOOLS, COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
Abilene ISD: Reported nine new cases (four students and five staff) on Monday, down from Friday’s 10. New cases per campus: one student at Alcorta Elementary, one student at Purcell Elementary, two students and one staff member at Elementary Ward, one staff member at Clack Middle, one staff member at Elementary Ortiz, a staff member at One AISD and a member of the transport staff.
Active cases total 117 (96 students, 21 staff). As of June 14, the district has reported 1,002 cases (817 students, 185 staff).
Wylie ISD: Seven new student cases reported Monday, for a total of 29 active cases. That’s two fewer active cases than those reported on Friday.
Active cases by campus: one staff member at East Junior High, one student at West Intermediate, three students at West Junior High, four students at East Elementary, one student and staff member at West Elementary, two students at West Early Childhood and 16 students at Wylie High.
Christian University of Abilene: Reported Monday three new cases and four active cases. There are five people in quarantine due to possible exposure. Of the active cases, 50% were not vaccinated. The cumulative cases since August 17 total 149.
