San Angelo man charged after Winters man was shot and killed in hotel

SAN ANGELO – A San Angelo man was arrested Monday in connection with the shooting death of Daniel Chandler, 41, of Winters, according to the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office.

The Runnels County Sheriff’s Office posted a social media post on Tuesday that a San Angelo man was arrested at the Shoppin ‘Basket, 610 Hutchins Ave., in Ballinger.

The arrest came in a joint operation with the San Angelo Police Department, the Tom Green County Sheriff’s Office and the Runnels County Sheriff’s Office.

Law enforcement arrested Cody Ray Salazar on suspicion of murder, possession of marijuana, escape from detention and debit card abuse. He stayed in the Runnels County Jail in lieu of a $ 1,011,000 bond as of 10 a.m. Tuesday, according to the sheriff’s office.

What happened to Daniel Chandler?

At approximately 1:16 a.m. on June 28, 2021, San Angelo police discovered that Chandler had been shot and killed at the Inn of the Conchos, 2021 N. Bryant Blvd., according to a police press release.

Court documents were not available at 11:30 am Tuesday. Police did not give further details on what led to the arrest.
