Ministers open government exhibition in Salem

Minister of Municipal Administration KN Nehru and Minister of Information and Publicity Department MP Swaminathan opened a 45-day government exhibition in Salem on Sunday.

Due to COVID-19, the Government Expo has not been held for the past two years in Salem. This year, the exhibition was held at the Corporation’s grounds near Salem New Bus Stand. There are 32 government booths in the expo that showcase government services and programs. The model of Panamarathupatti Lake and the pumping of water from the lake attracted the public.

After the inauguration of the exhibition, the ministers inspected the stands on site.

Mr. Nehru said, “33 years ago when I took office as Minister of Information and Publicity, on behalf of the department, the exhibition was opened. The department is responsible for presenting the government’s achievements to the public. By visiting exhibits, people have the chance to learn how the government provides social assistance.

Mr Swaminathan said that from the first day of his term, Chief Minister MK Stalin offered various programs to the people, including free trips for women and “Makkalai Thedi Maruthuvam”. This is the 214th government exhibit opened in the state.

During the recently inaugurated government exhibitions in Coimbatore and Madurai districts, four million people visited the fair.

Mr. Swaminathan added that next month government exhibits will be inaugurated in Tiruchi, Vellore and Thanjavur districts.

Social assistance was distributed by ministers to 206 recipients at a cost of ₹4.99 crore.

District Collector S. Karmegam, MP SR Parthiban, MPs R. Rajendran, R. Arul and S. Sadhasivam, Mayor A. Ramachandran, Director of Information and Publicity Department, Vice President Jayaseelan, the company commissioner T. Chirsturaj and officials from various departments participated.
