CHICO, California – A man was arrested after police received reports that a man stole items from a vehicle in Chico, according to the Chico Police Department.
At approximately 8:40 am Wednesday, officers responded to W. Seventh St. and Orange St. when a person reported that a man was taking items from a vehicle and leaving.
When police arrived, they confirmed the vehicle was an unreported stolen vehicle. The owner last saw the vehicle before falling asleep.
The investigating officer obtained surveillance footage of the suspect wearing a red cap.
The suspect then cycled a block away from the officer who eventually contacted the man.
He has been identified as Michael Runnels, 40.
Runnels was in possession of stolen goods from the vehicle. The officer also found stolen goods in his personal belongings at Depot Park.
Runnels was arrested for burglary and vehicle theft. He was incarcerated in the Butte County Jail.
