Planning continues for Garrett County’s 150th anniversary celebrations.

The 150th Anniversary Planning Committee is organizing programming and souvenirs around the theme of the event: Small Beginnings, Connected Communities: Celebrating 150 Years of Garrett County.

The year-long celebration will begin at the Public Meeting of Commissioners in December 2021 and will continue at festivals and events in each of the county’s eight municipalities – Accident, Deer Park, Friendsville, Grantsville, Kitzmiller, Loch Lynn Heights, Mountain Lake Park, and Oakland – throughout 2022.

A Public Celebration Event (TBD) will take place and there will be many features and invites for public participation throughout the year. Activities will include a public invitation for ‘what Garrett County means to me’ essay, logo, photo and art submissions, historical walking tours, ‘then and now’ comparisons. hui ”, trivia, and more.

Souvenir collector coins and printed booklets are planned, and participants will be encouraged to collect each coin by visiting each city during the events mentioned above. Commemorative coins will be free and will include a keepsake book to hold the coins.

“We are proud of our county and the bright future we have ahead of us,” said Paul Edwards, chair of the Garrett County Commissioners Council. “This series of celebrations will be a county-wide event involving cities, communities and citizen groups showcasing our rich local history.”

Note that an information website with additional details and a schedule will be launched shortly.
