Former Kaufman County Volunteer Fire Treasurer Charged With Bank Fraud – CBS Dallas / Fort Worth

NORTH OF TEXAS (CBSDFW.COM) – A man from Kaufman County who allegedly took out fraudulent loans on behalf of his volunteer fire department was charged with making a false statement to a bank.

Denny Mackey, the 68-year-old former treasurer of the Crandall Volunteer Fire Department, was arrested at his Richardson home on October 4.

According to the indictment, between May 2011 and September 2013, Mackey allegedly obtained tens of thousands of dollars from financial institutions by soliciting unauthorized loans supposedly to be used for firefighting purposes, without the knowledge of the services of ‘fire.

One example, alleged in the indictment, details how Mackey fraudulently applied for a loan of $ 75,000 allegedly for firefighters’ expenses in 2013. He falsely told the bank that the money would be used to fund the salary. a full-time firefighter – knowing full well that the volunteer force did not employ full-time staff.

Shortly after the bank issued the loan, which he hid from the fire department, Mackey allegedly withdrew more than $ 50,000 from a company he controlled.

The following year, the fire chief appeared before Crandall City Council to report that the fire department had been forced to sell some of its trucks and equipment in order to pay off the fraudulent loan.

In 2014, Crandall Fire Department Chief Allen Cousins ​​said he would stay ahead of debt to the banks and they would have to sell a fire truck, brush truck and truck – cistern, or nearly half of the service’s fire-fighting equipment.
