Delhi reports 4,099 new cases and one more death; 6.46% positivity rate

Delhi News and Live Updates: Delhi reported 4,099 new cases of Covid-19 on Monday at a positivity rate of 6.46%. Another person has died from Covid-19 while 1,509 have recovered.

Meanwhile, with the increase in Covid cases, Delhi Health Minister Satyendar Jain said on Monday that more than 81% of the total samples sequenced in the past two days showed the Omicron variant. Of the 187 samples sequenced over the two days, 152 were classified as omicron, according to data shared by the Delhi government.

“According to genome sequencing reports from December 30 to 31 from three laboratories – at the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences, Lok Nayak Hospital and the National Center for Disease Control – 84% of the samples were infected with Omicron. Most of the cases concern Omicron, ”he told the Delhi Assembly.

According to the health bulletin to be released later Monday, the capital has registered around 4,000 new cases of coronavirus and the positivity rate has risen to 6.5%, the minister said.

Meanwhile, Delhi BJP workers staged a protest on Monday against the city government‘s new excise policy and blocked roads in various places in the nation’s capital, including near the Akshardham temple. The protest near the Akshardham temple was led by BJP Delhi President Adesh Gupta.

In other news, vaccination of children aged 15-18 against covid-19 has started as vaccination centers across the country have started administering the vaccines to the younger population. In Delhi, where daily cases have seen a record increase in recent days, the vaccination center at Fortis Hospital, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital and other facilities have started administering the vaccines.
